Dunstable Town Council went out to tender for the redevelopment of www.dunstable.gov.uk website. The content management system had become dated, restricting the ability of Council officers to update the website as they would like. This outdated technology was not responsive, making the user experience more challenging for users accessing the site on mobile and tablet devices.
Several companies responded to the tender opportunity and JNB Publishing submitted a detailed proposal responding to the supplied brief. JNB was selected at the preferred supplier and following a series of meetings the project was booked in for development.
The brief required the retention of existing functionality; the ability to pay bills and invoices online, event ticket sales and of course the ability for Council users to regularly update and add content. In addition to this, the Council wanted an ecommerce solution to sell products and a booking facilities for the highly popular afternoon teas at Priory House.
Key considerations for the project included simplicity of navigation for users, ease of access for Council officers and providing an excellent user experience across the website. Working closely with the Council, JNB was able to recommend improvements and introduce new functionality whilst retaining all of the content from the original website. The project was delivered within the specified budget and to the agreed timescale, other important components of the brief.
Since recently going live, the result is a slimmer website using less pages and making content more readily available to front-end users. An intuitive booking facility for afternoon tea has been introduced and an online store enables users to purchase popular items inline. JNB provided training for all administrative users within the council and created a series of tutorial videos to assist with ongoing content management. In addition to this JNB provides ongoing maintenance and support of the website to ensure the site continually preforms at an optimal level and that users can access support whenever needed.
